Today’s biographical drama movie has a scene that happens
today – January 17. I hope you will enjoy this film and watch it tonight.
GABLE AND LOMBARD
On January 17, 1943 Clark Gable arrives at the scene of an
airplane crash. His wife, actress Carole Lombard was on board. [1:22 to 3:19]
He thinks back over the history of their relationship. Hollywood stars Clark
Gable and Carole Lombard meet at a party and take an instant dislike to each
other. However, events keep throwing them together and they realize they are in
love. The problem is Gable is already married and the studio heads don’t want
him to divorce, fearing bad publicity. His wife finally divorces him and he and
Lombard are married. Gable suffers through a paternity suit filed by a former
girlfriend. Gable learns Lombard has been killed in the crash. [2:04:58 to
2:10:47]
A very uneven film. Has its moments, but we never get to the
real Gable or Lombard. Portrays the gossip magazine version of theses stars.
Still, it is a watchable movie.
Carole Lombard by Wes D. Gehrig (Indiana Historical
Society Press, Indianapolis, 2003) at pages 15-16 gives the date of the crash.
