Today’s comedy movie has a scene that happens on January 16.
I hope you will enjoy this film and watch it tonight.
WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM
Hunter S. Thompson is trying to
finish a story about a friend of his, attorney Carl Lazlo. He thinks back over
his friendship with Lazlo. In 1968 San Francisco, Lazlo was trying to prevent a
group of youths from receiving harsh sentences for drug possession. When they
do anyway, Lazlo attacks the Prosecuting Attorney and is jailed for contempt of
court. Thompson’s story about the trial is a huge smash. He does not hear from
Lazlo until January 16, 1972 [ 44:47 to 1:06:40] the day of Super Bowl VI,
which he is covering. He abandons the story to join Lazlo and a group of
freedom fighters in smuggling arms to a Latin American country. However, at the
airport, when the arms are being loaded on the plane, a police helicopter
appears. Lazlo flees in the plane, but Thompson stays behind. Thompson appears on the college lecture
circuit. During the 1972 campaign, he is tossed from the journalist’s plane by
the Presidential Press Secretary. He drugs Harris, a journalist from the
Washington Post and steals his clothes and credentials. Thompson uses his
disguise to finagle an interview with Nixon.
Thompson returns to the press plane. Lazlo appears and tries to convince
him to fly off to a socialist paradise. The pair are tossed from the plane.
Lazlo vanishes for the last time.
A very strange movie. It’s
definitely self-referential. Murray does give a good performance as a strange
character.
