DUNKIRK
Early in the Second World War, England and France are unprepared for the onslaught of the German attack in the west. On May 11, 1940 [14:44 to 14:55] the newspapers announce that Churchill has become premier. A few weeks later in France, Corporal “Tubby” Binns, Lieutenant Lawrence and a squad of the British army return from blowing up a bridge to find their unit has withdrawn. After Lumpkin is killed in a bomber attack Binns has to lead his men through countryside swarming with Germans and under air attack to reach the British evacuation point at Dunkirk. Back in Britain a pessimistic reporter, Charles Foreman tries to overcome the apathy of the population towards the war. The Royal Navy organizes their ships and civilian craft to evacuate the army from the continent. Foreman and some of his friends including Holden who does so reluctatntly, volunteer to take their own boats to Dunkirk. Tubby and his men end up on Holden’s boat after Foreman’s is sunk.
