IN COLD BLOOD
Perry Smith
breaks parole and teams up with Dick Hickock, while the Clutter family of
Holcomb, Kansas go about their ordinary lives. Hickock heard from Floyd Welles
in prison that Herbert Clutter keeps $10,000 in cash in a safe in his house, so
Smith and Hickock travel there to steal it and kill all witnesses. Friends
discover the bodies the next day and the case gets national publicity. While
Smith and Hickock pusue schemes to defraud stores, the police launch an
investigation. Welles talks to get the reward and an all points bulletin is
issued for Hickock. The pair travel to Mexico, but soon return to Las Vegas,
where they are arrested for driving a stolen car. On January 3, 1960 [1:20:40
to 1:23:29 and 1:50:44 to 1:51:29] Hickock confesses his involvement in the
murders. On the drive back to Kansas Smith tells how, after they entered the
Clutter house they learned there was no safe, but killed the family anyway and
left with $43 dollars. The pair is tried, convicted and five years later hung
for their crimes.
