October 9 - Ghostbusters

Today’s motion picture is a comedy film with a scene that happens on October 8. Watch and enjoy this film tonight.  

GHOSTBUSTERS       

Parapsychologists Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler are forced to retreat from a ghost at the New York City Public Library. After they are fired from Columbia University they develop the technology to capture ghosts and set up a spirit elimination service called Ghostbusters.  They capture their first ghost at the Sedgwick Hotel and put it and the other ghosts they capture in a special containment unit. Soon they are dealing with paranormal activity all over New York, including a ghost in Chinatown on October 9, 1984. [39:03 to 39:43]  and become media celebrities. Dana Barrett hires them to investigate her apartment building, which is haunted by Zuul, a demigod servant of the shape-shifting Sumerian god of destruction, Gozer. Dana becomes possessed and calls herself the “Gatekeeper” and her neighbor, Louis Tully becomes possessed, calling himself the “Keymaster”. Both speak of their joining leading to the coming of Gozer and the end of the world. The Ghostbusters act to keep the pair apart, but the Environmental Protection Agency forces the Ghostbusters to shut down their containment unit allowing the entire group of captured ghosts to escape and wreck havoc. Dana and Louis have a romantic encounter which leads to their being turned into demonic hounds and summoning Gozer. The Ghostbusters learn Dana’s building was constructed as a portal to summon Gozer. They temporarily subdue Gozer, but it warns the “Destructor” in a form to be chosen by the team will arrive and destroy the world. Stantz, unable to clear his mind thinks of the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man and a huge one appears. The Ghostbusters violate protocol, cross the streams from their proton packs and defeat Gozer.  They are heroes again.
